Chairman Raser-Schramm's statement following the White House's announcement it plans to end DACA

Press Release

Delaware Democratic Party Chairman Erik Raser-Schramm issued the following statement regarding the White House’s announcement that it will rescind the DACA program:

Today, the Trump administration turned its back on hard-working immigrant families, students, and top college graduates who have embarked on extraordinary careers, simply because of where they were born. Should Trump’s decision go unchallenged by Congress, it will force thousands of immigrants back into the shadows, tear families and communities apart, and strike a devastating blow to the nearly 800,000 young immigrants who know only this country as their home.

Make no mistake, this action is cruel and shows the unchecked and corrosive influence of the most extreme elements of the Republican Party. Here in Delaware, Democrats proudly stand by the nearly 1,500 DREAMers who work hard, help grow our economy, and are living proof that our country is a better place when we embrace diversity and shared prosperity.

While we join with those Republicans who believe we should work, in good faith, to fix our broken immigration system once and for all, we also challenge them to join us in affirming that children of immigrants who have only ever known this great country as their home ought to be protected. We ask them to join us in calling on Congress to take up legislation that reverses this decision, protects our young DREAMers, and keeps our communities strong.
