For Immediate Release

Contact Katie Ellis, (302) 353-0807

In response to mounting protests over Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s extreme proposals to eliminate collective bargaining rights for state employees, Delaware Democratic Party Chairman John D. Daniello issued the following statement:

“Collective bargaining rights have been a lynchpin of our democracy, allowing workers to have some control over their working conditions. We can thank the labor movement for improvements to all of our standards of living, like the 40-hour workweek, workers compensation, minimum wages, and child labor laws. Across the country, extremists now seek to reverse gains made by the middle class over the last century, using the excuse of balancing budgets to wage an assault on American workers. Instead of attempting to dismantle the middle class, I believe we must build on past progress and continue strengthening the position of our working families by focusing on job creation and improving the quality of life.

“I stand with the state employees of Wisconsin, and with all of our men and women in labor, and call on Governor Walker and his confederates across the country to find sane solutions to balancing their state budgets.”

###

Congratulations to Senator-Elect Chris Coons, Congressman-Elect John Carney, Attorney General Beau Biden, and Treasurer-Elect Chip Flowers, as well as new members of the State House and county teams!

You did it. For months and months, you’ve made the phone calls, knocked on the doors, and talked to the voters to tell them why this election matters. And tonight, you’ve proved that you have the power to make change.

Tonight, Delaware is the brightest spot in the nation. Not only have we retained Delaware’s U.S. Senate seat for the very capable hands of Chris Coons, but we have elected a fine Congressman in John Carney, re-elected Beau Biden as Attorney General, and elected Chip Flowers as State Treasurer. On the local level, we added two additional seats to our majority in the State House, and retained our majority in the State Senate.

Tonight is a testament to what a real grassroots movement can accomplish. You should be very proud of your work. I know I am.

Please join Vice President Biden and our Democratic statewide team for a get out the vote rally in Wilmington this Saturday!

Katie -

The stakes of this election couldn’t be higher for Delaware or the nation, so it’s important that each and every one of us do what we can to get folks out to vote on Tuesday.

Delaware’s got a terrific slate of Democratic candidates on the ballot and I couldn’t be more excited to join them for a rally in Wilmington’s H. Fletcher Brown Park on Monday.

This election is close and the stakes are high, which is why we need to get our friends and neighbors out to vote for Chris Coons, John Carney and the other outstanding Democrats who share our commitment to moving our state and our nation forward.

We’d love for you to join us and be a part of this special moment.
