Democrats Nominate Ken Woods for Special Election in NCC Council District 1

NEW CASTLE - New Castle County Democrats have nominated Ken Woods for the New Castle County Council District 1 Special Election, to fill the seat left vacant by the untimely death of Councilman Joseph Reda.

Earlier this week, local Democratic committee members gathered at Delaware Democratic Party Headquarters to assist New Castle County Chair, Betsy Maron, in selecting a candidate for the upcoming Special Election. Potential candidates were given time to address attendees and field questions regarding policy. The committee then unanimously selected Ken Woods as the Democratic nominee.

Ken Woods has been a registered Democrat since he was eligible to vote. He has volunteered on Democratic campaigns from an early age, instilling in him a strong sense of the personal commitment it takes to hold public office. Ken worked closely with Councilman Reda and considered him a great friend and mentor. Ken, a proven leader, has chaired his Rep. District’s Democratic Committee for nearly a decade and has served as an elected member of the Red Clay School Board since 2008. Ken Woods knows the district and its citizens well. Having been involved with the Sheet Metal Workers Union for 27 years, Ken understands the needs and wants of working families.

In response to the nomination Ken Woods stated,

“If elected I will work hard for the constituents of the district and all of New Castle County. Some of the issues I will focus on are responsible development, code enforcement, and the eradication of the crime and drugs that plague our communities. I will support policies that promote job creation to the extent possible. I look forward to the opportunity to serve my neighbors in a new capacity and I thank my fellow Democrats for their vote of confidence.”

The Special Election will be held Tuesday, May 24.
