Delaware Democratic Party Chair John D. Daniello’s Statement On Speaker Bob Gilligan’s Retirement

(NEW CASTLE, DE) – Delaware Democratic Party Chairman John D. Daniello released the following statement on Speaker Bob Gilligan’s announcement that he would not seek reelection this Fall:

“The Speaker’s announcement yesterday was a bittersweet moment for me: we will, of course, be sad to see such a great Democratic leader step down.  But we must also celebrate his many accomplishments throughout his forty years of service.

“Speaker Gilligan has been a tenacious legislator who will always stand up for what’s right.  And he has shown an impressive ability to hold people together – whether we were in the majority or the minority.  Above all, the Speaker has been the epitome of a legislator working for middle class Delawareans.  His love for Delaware has always been apparent.

“In 1970, I personally asked Bob to get active in the Democratic Party and formally enter politics.  I am proud to have played a role in his political start – his many achievements have certainly made an everlasting impression on our great State.  Thank you, Bob, for all you’ve done for Delaware.  Delawareans will be talking about your accomplishments for years and years to come.”
