Informational Meeting Regarding Special Election

Blog

Dear Democrats:

As a result of the election of Lieutenant Governor-elect Bethany Hall-Long, who currently holds the 10th District Senate seat, there is an expected special election to fill her senatorial position. To date, the Department of Elections has not set the date of the special election.  Nevertheless, time is of the essence to select, support and elect our Democratic candidate.  In accordance with Delaware law, the Democratic Party nominates the candidate.  There is no primary election.

On Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 7:00 p.m., the New Castle County Executive Committee is holding a meeting to discuss potential nominees for the office.  This meeting is open to all Democrats.  All individuals interested in seeking the nomination are invited to speak to the Committee and Democrats in the Senatorial District.   Interested individuals are encouraged to contact New Castle County Chair, Betsy Maron, for additional information prior to the meeting.

The meeting will be held at Delaware Democratic Party Headquarters:

19 E. Commons Blvd., 2nd Floor
New Castle, DE 19720
Phone: (302) 328-9036

All registered Democrats in the Senatorial District are encouraged to attend this important meeting.

There will be no formal vote or selection on December 14, 2016.  On January 3, 2017, current committee members who reside in the Senatorial District will meet to formally recommend a Democratic candidate to the County Committee.   At this special meeting, in accordance with Rule 8.2 of the Rules of the Delaware Democratic Party, the candidate shall be chosen by a majority vote of the district committee members present and voting.
