Delaware Democrats Roll Out Spanish Version of DelDems.org

Website Offers Latino Community a Wider View of Democratic Party 

NEW CASTLE — After two and a half months of translation, the Spanish language version of the Delaware Democratic Party’s website debuted at deldems.org on Thursday afternoon.  It is an essential component of the overall plan for outreach, inclusion and organization in the party.  According to 2006 US Census Bureau estimations, six percent of Delaware’s population is Latino, accounting for roughly 50,000 people.

“We have a lot of valuable information on our website about party events, our structure and voter education programs,” said Executive Director Molly Jurusik. “We want to ensure that we make as much information about the political and election process available to as many people in Delaware as possible.”

Without the hard work of our intern and University of Delaware junior Sara Jamison, translating the website would have been difficult.  Jamison has studied Spanish for the last seven years and has done extensive work in Spanish language education, including an ESL teaching position last summer at the Nationality Service Center in Philadelphia, PA.  She recently traveled to Argentina to study Spanish Culture – taught exclusively in Spanish -- at Pontifica Universidad Catalica Argentina (Catholic University of Argentina).

“It’s a relief to be finished with such an extensive project,” said Jamison. “With the 2008 election season about to kick into full gear, I know we’ll continue to work together within the Democratic Party to keep the Spanish version of the party website current.”

“The First State’s Latino community is growing rapidly, and we want everyone in Delaware have access to information about our party and our candidates and encourage the outreach to and involvement of all people,” said Jurusik.
