Delegates for 2008 National Convention
NEW CASTLE — With Delaware’s Presidential Primary set for Tuesday, February 5th, the time for Delaware’s Democratic Party to select National Convention Delegates is fast approaching. The Party is encouraging anyone registered in Delaware as a Democrat as of December 1, 2007 to sign up to become a delegate candidate.
The 2008 Delegate Selection Plan pays special attention to the inclusion of all groups within the party.
“This year, more than any other year, the Democratic Party is encouraging minorities, those in the GLBT community, people with disabilities, and young voters to get involved in the delegate process,” said party Chairman John Daniello. “We look forward to sending an all inclusive group to the convention, one that mirrors the Delaware Democratic Party’s unique diversity.”
Dates of
Importance:
January
7th
Application process to become a
sub-division level delegate or alternate
begins.
January 31st Deadline to file as a sub-division level delegate. Applications must be returned to Democratic Party headquarters by 5pm.
February 5th Delaware’s Presidential Primary.
February 8th - 29th Representative District Caucuses take place.
March 5th Deadline for those interested in becoming a PLEO, at-large delegate, and at-large alternates. Additionally, subdivision-level Delegate candidates who are selected at their RD caucus must fill out a second application for the national convention. This is the deadline for the second application. The presidential preference on the second application, must match the one listed on the first application.
April 5th State Convention in Dover, Sheraton Hotel.
Final selection of delegates takes place.
August 25th - 28th Democratic National Convention, Denver, CO.
Those wishing to be delegates can pick up an application at Delaware Democratic Party headquarters, 19 E. Commons Blvd, New Castle. Before filling out the application, we strongly encourage you to read the 2008 Delegate Selection Plan, available on our website at www.deldems.org or party headquarters.
