Countdown to Election Day 2008 is Already Underway

Democrats Take the Opportunity to Blanket Delaware in

Unprecedented Grassroots Organizing Effort

NEW CASTLE — Despite the chilly temperatures, Delaware Democrats fanned across the state in an unprecedented national grassroots organizing effort, knocking on doors, energizing voters about the upcoming elections, and engaging fellow Democrats in conversations about the initiatives our party is undertaking to make 2008 a great year for Democrats.

“Taking back the White House, keeping the Governor’s mansion, maintaining our majority in the Senate, capturing control of the House, and winning in other elections starts with taking our message into every community in Delaware,” said Delaware Democratic Party Chairman John Daniello. “We cannot expect people to vote for us if we do not respect them enough to ask for their vote, and our unprecedented grassroots organizing effort will ensure that next year we can elect strong Democrats who will go to work for Delaware's families.”

Today’s organizing effort is the result of the Delaware Democratic Party’s hard work to recruit Neighborhood Leaders, who are charged with contacting voters in their communities. From now until Election Day, Neighborhood Leaders will revisit those voters multiple times. Each Leader will also recruit additional Neighborhood Leaders who will do the same. This is not just a Delaware initiative. The goal is to recruit 500,000 Neighborhood Leaders nationwide between now and Labor Day.

“As much as we want to get out our message over the next year, a major component of our outreach is getting feedback from the people we contact,” said Delaware Party Executive Director Molly Jurusik. “We want to know what issues are the most important so we can continue to bring real results to the people of Delaware.”
