Organized Labor and Employment
As Democrats we believe we must support Delaware’s working families. Delaware Democrats recognize the essential role that organized labor has played in bringing a measure of fairness and safety to Delaware’s workforce. Organized labor is necessary to protect and safeguard the rights of workers to organize and collectively bargain. The Delaware Democratic Party supports:
- The right of individuals to organize and bargain collectively,
- The protection of organized labor’s ability to engage people in the political process,
- Enacting a livable wage,
- Ensuring a healthy and safe work environment,
- Encouraging an open line of communication between labor leaders and leaders of government,
- Legislating progressive worker compensation protections,
- Encouraging employers to provide short and long term disability insurance,
- Requiring employers to provide adequate unemployment insurance, and
- Encouraging greater funding for job training and retraining of displaced workers.
