Representative Johnson Speaks Up For Democratic Party, Responds To GOP

Democratic Representative and New Castle County Democratic Committee Treasurer James "JJ" Johnson speaks out against GOP Chairman John Sigler's nonsensical proposals in his Op-Ed published in Monday's News Journal. Among his proposals, Chairman Sigler calls for a constitutional amendment require a "supermajority" on all tax and fee bills and the budget, Bond Bill and Grant-in-Aid.  "Mr. Sigler is blowing smoke and then yelling 'fire'," says Representative Johnson.  Not only do we already have many safeguards in place to ensure "money bills" are given appropriate consideration, but our legislators have also made our budget process completely open and transparent.  Furthermore, requiring a supermajority vote on revenue measures could hurt our AAA bond rating. "Although it's sometimes derided, the 'Delaware Way' of working together to do the right thing, especially when it comes to state finances, is something that should be celebrated here," says Representative Johnson. "Mr. Sigler's 'path to fiscal responsibility' is littered with pothole-sized gimmicks and procedural roadblocks." Rep. Johnson's response highlights Delaware Democrats' sensible leadership.  In his words, "Delaware is on the right road and will continue moving forward." Read the rest of the Op-Ed here.
