Dear Democratic Friends:
One of our local activists wrote this letter today to Congressman Castle. I wanted to share it with you.
Dear Congressman Castle,
I just read the May 24 – 28 copy of The Castle Record. I too am grateful to the men and women who put on the “uniform day in and day out …and put everything on the line in order to protect the many freedoms, rights and liberties that, as Americans, we hold dear.”
But, Congressman, I was struck by the irony of your words. This week you voted against the rights of many of these very same men and women when you voting against the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
As I pause for the National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 p.m. on Monday I will, as you ask, “remember the sacrifices of our troops and reflect on the values and ideals upon which our great nation was founded.”
Congressman, I ask that as you participate in this moment that you think of the men and women in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard Marines and Navy whom you chose not to include in your tribute.
I also ask you to remember those buried in Flanders Field and Normandy and those who returned through Dover Air Force Base who had to live a secret life in order to serve their country.
You and I are “forever indebted to these brave men and women.”

Memorial Day
As Memorial Day events are enjoyed around the country, we honor the many heroes of our great nation for their past and present commitment, courage, sacrifice and dedication. As a nation, we are forever indebted to these brave men and women, as well as their families and those who work to support and protect them, both domestically and abroad. By putting on the uniform day in and day out, the men and women of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, and Navy put everything on the line in order to protect the many freedoms, rights, and liberties that, as Americans, we hold dear. In addition to traditional Memorial Day events in your community, I hope you will join me in pausing for the National Moment of Remembrance, at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 31 to both remember the sacrifices of our troops and reflect on the values and ideals upon which our great nation was founded.
