Castle to Republicans: I will consider a repeal

With this much flip-flopping, is Mike Castle worried about whiplash?

Where exactly does Mike Castle stand on repealing the health reform bill passed by Congress several weeks ago? The answer seems to depend heavily on who Castle is talking to at the time.

Just after the bill was signed, The News Journal reported that Castle would not join GOP efforts to repeal the law, even though he opposed its passage. This position put him squarely at odds with primary opponent Christine O’Donnell, who has called for the bill- and Rep. Castle- to be repealed.

Yet, at a closed-door meeting of Sussex County Republicans, Castle appeared to flip-flop yet again, this time telling the party base that he would be open to considering a repeal of the bill. [Video Here]

“We’re seeing a very disturbing pattern from Republican Representative Castle of refusing to take a clear position on the issues in the senate campaign,” said Katie Ellis, Communications Director for the Delaware Democratic Party. “First it was taking credit for individual projects from the Recovery Act, even after having opposed the funding in Congress. Now, it’s telling his Republican supporters one thing, and the public at large something else. Castle is the only candidate having trouble with whether or not he supports repealing critical health care reforms for the people he represents. Delaware voters should worry that Castle has spent so long in Washington, he has forgotten that we value honesty in our elected officials.”
