Washington, D.C. – Citing his business background and his ability to tackle tough challenges, Gov. Jack Markell’s colleagues today selected him to be the next Chairman of the Democratic Governors Association. Gov. Markell’s term, which begins this evening, offers the Governor the chance to tell the state’s great story to business leaders across the country and work closely with national leaders in the White House and Congress on policy issues like creating jobs.
“I was honored that my fellow Governors asked me to take on this role based in part on the work we have started here to create jobs, strengthen our schools and make government more cost-effective,” Gov. Markell said. “Chairing the DGA presents a great opportunity to tell Delaware’s story on a national stage to businesses looking for a place to prosper. It offers us a significant chance to make a difference on the issues that matter most to Delawareans.”
Outgoing DGA Chair Gov. Brian Schweitzer, of Montana, praised his successor for his tenacity and innovation.
“Gov. Markell has never been afraid to tackle tough challenges. He has been a great governor so far and his colleagues recognize that,” Schweitzer said. “I have found that being DGA chairman gives me the chance to not only help our cause nationally but bring attention to the great things Montana has to offer. I am sure Gov. Markell will do the same for Delaware.”
